Zap was born from necessity. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 11, Alex grew up on chalky, artificial glucose tablets. He went on to become a marathon runner, an engineer, and an entrepreneur — but the product he relied on daily never evolved.

Alex and Ronnie have been best friends since elementary school, and 25 years later still live five minutes apart in NYC. In March 2025, after years of Alex wrestling with chalky, artificial, outdated glucose tablets, the two decided to build something better. We're a T1D and his lifelong ally, making the tablets we always wished existed.

12 months
Built with obsession
We spent 12 months with a designer and manufacturer willing to be as obsessive as we were. We tried every glucose tablet on the market, including formulations from Switzerland and Japan, and took notes on all of it. Then we prototyped the formula, flavors, and packaging until each one cleared our bar.

Zap is built on a simple idea: that the glucose tablets we rely on shouldn't feel like an afterthought. That's why ours are made with coconut oil, real fruit powders, and natural flavors, so they taste like candy instead of medicine. No artificial colors, no dyes, no chalk pucks.
